His attention to detail brings even sunlight and quilts to life. His artwork mainly reflects women and children.
Few artists can obtain the depth and emotion which Steve Hanks is able to capture. He tells us that he paints from life and
involves all of us in an emotional way with his paintings.
He was born in California and lived there until his late teens when his parents moved to New Mexico. The coast and the ocean of California are shown in many of his works even though he has remained and painted in New Mexico. After Hanks graduated from high school he attended the University of California at Berkley and the Academy of Art in San Francisco and graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. US Art has ranked Steve Hanks among America's 15 most popular print artists from 1994 to 1997. In 1998 he was listed as the third most popular artist and in 2000, US Art added him to it's Hall of Fame. He has won many awards and today is one of the most popular artists in New Mexico where he lives and works. |
